Vaccination is the best protection against the flu. Everyone over six months of age should get vaccinated each year, to be protected against the strains of flu that are circulating each year.
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA/ObamaCare) all health insurance must cover preventive care such as flu vaccinations (with no fee or co-pay). Your regular health care provider should have vaccine. You can also get vaccinated at many other places (see the Flu Vaccine Finder).

Vaccine Availability
It is recommended that everyone six months or older get vaccinated against the flu each year. This is especially important for the following groups:
- Pregnant women,
- Children aged 6 months to 18 years of age,
- People 50 years of age and older,
- People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions,
- People who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities,
- People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
- Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu (see above),
- Household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated),
- Health care workers.
